Rosa Parks, was born on 4 february 1913, in Alabama.
She was an American civil rights activist, and she died on October 24, 2005 (aged 92).
Custom in Montgomery required Black passengers to surrender their seats in the front of the bus to accommodate white riders. The rows in the back were designated for Black riders
Rosa Parks defied a segregation legislation known as Jim Crow law. She was sitting in a place, in a bus. However, the bus driver James F. Blake told Rosa Parks to go on the back of the bus. Yet, she refused after Blake grabbed her sleeve, Parks moved to the front of the bus, sitting in one of the rows reserved for white passengers. She then exited the bus without re-boarding. After this incident, she got arrested.
Jim Crow laws were created in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that enforced racial segregation. This law was established to maintain power over black people.
However, which is surprising, is that say "no rider had to surrender a seat unless another was available" However, black people constituted a majority of bus riders in Montgomery.
During the 1980s, Parks continued to take part in social and political causes she participated in the Free South Africa Movement, and many other mouvement. Rosa Parks is one of the major figures who contributed to changing America and helped advance the cause for Black people.
