Columbine is a french music band which was created in 2014 by Lujiepka, Foda C, Yro, Chaman, Sully, Chaps and Lorenzo and ended in 2018. The band appeared in the city of Rennes in Bretagne. They chose “Columbine” as their band’s name because of the slaughter of Columbine in the United States of America and also because of the last letters, “INE” which is in France a number which prove that you are a student. They made three albums. Which are “Clubbing for Columbine”, “Enfants Terribles” and “Adieu Bientôt”.
Columbine used French Rap to create their music, even if in their last album they moved away to French rap. The mains themes in their music are differents because in every album we can notice a lot of subjects. For example in the First album “Clubbing for Columbine” they make every songs differents, the album is not focused on one theme. Those songs variate from a group of friends who have fun with each others to a song where one of them expose a certain depression. In the second album “Enfants Terribles” they focus on one theme they explain in every songs. The main theme of this one is the loneliness. They manage to make us feel these emotions. This album is sad for those who listen to it. In their last album, “Adieu Bientôt”, they are polyvalents. The idea of this album was to have fun making it and to tell to their fans to take all the songs they like and listen to it.  It’s fascinating because their fans like them for the lyrics. I will give one sentence from every album and analyze it quickly. In “Clubbing for Columbine” we have, “J’ai cracké tous les logiciels de son, la police, remettez-vous en question” (Les prélis), here Foda C express his hate of the French Cops by the simple fact that he achieved to have access to many software without buying it. In “Enfants Terribles” we have “J’me sens comme un arc-en-ciel dans un trou noir” (Temps électrique), here the rainbow in the blackhole refers to the fact that the blackhole pulls in the light, so the rainbow isn’t visible, so we can notice the sadness of those lyrics. In “Adieu Bientôt” we have “J’suis détestable : j’suis l’auto-portrait de la planète” (Adieu bientôt), here Foda C means a certain hate of the world and himself. Those lyrics can be affiliated to the feeling of some persons.
The most popular song of Columbine is “Pierre, Feuille, Papier, Ciseaux”. The title may be weird for english people but in French, “feuille” and “papier” can mean the same thing so in rock, paper, scissors, French people can rarely say by accident “Pierre, Feuille, Papier, Ciseaux” instead of “Pierre, Feuille, Ciseaux”. The song is far away from the title, it talks about the story of a teenager who is like them. He makes songs and is sad at the same time. This character can be referred to a member of Columbine or a fan.
Columbine is a band which not influenced the French culture itself but had an effect on their fans. I chose Columbine as a subject because they are my favorite music band and i love their lyrics.
